Authorities have identified a man who was found last year in the Rush Creek Conservation Area in rural Harvard in McHenry County.
An examination of dental records from the University of Illinois at Chicago revealed that the man found May 5, 2019, was Darrell P. Splett, a 50-year-old from Ingleside, according to a statement from the McHenry County sheriff’s office.
The body will be returned to his family so final arrangements can be made, the sheriff’s office said.
Authorities were initially unable to identify him due to advanced state of decomposition.
In April 2020, the sheriff’s office reached out publicly for tips and released a photo of the man created by digital face reconstruction after failing to identify him with fingerprint, dental and DNA analysis.
