CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Mayor Lightfoot was expected to unveil a bad-news city budget later this week to help offset a more than $1 billion deficit caused by the pandemic.

Published reports suggest the first-term mayor will propose a $94 million property tax hike on home owners, on top of 350 layoffs, among other measure. This is barring last-minute relief from Washington, where a new stimulus package has stalled.

Lightfoot on Monday would not discuss her budget address, scheduled for Wednesday. She also would not deny the published reports.

“I’ve been very clear since my forecast speech on Aug. 31 that we’re looking at a range of different tools,” the mayor said at an unrelated event.
