Texas National Guard troops could arrive in North Texas as early as this weekend.
Officials with the Texas National Guard say they have been ordered to send up to 1,000 troops to seveal Texas cities including Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, Austin and San Antonio for what's being called "post-election support" of local law enforcement.
According to officials there has been no request or any plan to provide support at polling locations.
“Right now we could go to 1,000 troops in support of civil disturbance operations,” said Texas Guard spokesman Brandon Jones. “We’re going to guard buildings just like we did during the George Floyd protests earlier this year. We are not going anywhere near polling locations. That has not been requested.” as reported by the San Antonio Express News.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott is expected to publicly issue the order later this week.
