AMHERST, N.Y. (WBEN) - The Fairfield Inn on Rensch Road in Amherst is reportedly being used as a quarantine site for individuals during the coronavirus pandemic.

According to the Erie County Department of Health, the county is using the hotel for those who don't have access to a residence that is appropriate for quarantine or isolation.

"The individuals who are staying there are doing so with a referral from a physician and in coordination with the ECDOH," a spokesperson for the health department said in an e-mail. "This property is not accessible to the public at this time."

Amherst Police are at the site and keeping people away from the hotel.

All guests are confined to their rooms. Meals are delivered to their rooms and left in the hallway along with any other items they may need. There is minimal to no contact between hotel staff and Erie County staff and guests. The staff has access to protective equipment based on the level of contact they may have with the guests and each room has its own set of cleaning supplies.
