BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) - Bettors in New York will have their first opportunity to place a wager on the Super Bowl this year.

Gamblers can place bets at any local Seneca Casinos. Gavin Mercado, the Director of Sports Books at Seneca Buffalo Creek Casino, said there's been a lot of people who are excited at the opportunity.

"We're going to have these guests come in here, whether its repeat guests or new guests," Mercado said. "To get the chance to serve them and a new amenity to come in here. Our goal is to make sure all guests are satisfied."

The Sports Lounge at Seneca Buffalo opened on December 13. Many people have already taken advantage of the ability to place a bet on games, but for those of you who are planning on trying it out for the first time, Mercado said it's okay to ask the staff questions. In fact, it's encouraged.

Mercado reminded customers that the only way they can actually place a bet is by visiting a Sports Lounge at any Seneca Casino in person. You can also fill out a bet on your mobile device, but you'll have to take your phone into a casino to physically place the bet. Winning bets can be claimed at any Seneca Casino over the next calendar year.

In our interview, Mercado did not advocate for bets for any scenario because of his position with Seneca Gaming. However, Brian Blessing, a Las Vegas sports bettor from Western New York, feels strongly that the game will have 54 points in it and prefers San Francisco and the under. Blessing said some of his favorite prop bets include Patrick Mahomes' first rush being over 4.5 yards and his longest rush behind over 11.5 yards.

Even though Sunday is the end of the 2019-2020 NFL season. Future bets are already being accepted. A $100 bet for the Buffalo Bills to win the Super Bowl in 2021 could result in winnings of $3,500.
