HAMBURG, N.Y. (WBEN) - The group planning to transform the Hamburg Water Tower into a giant hamburger will begin fundraising at this weekend's BurgerFest in Hamburg.

The $1 million project that was pushed by Hamburg resident Chris Hannotte Luly will begin its fundraising by selling t-shirts with the design of the water tower at the 35th annual BurgerFest in the Village of Hamburg.

"We want those walking around town so everyone can see it," Hannotte Luly told WBEN.

No tax dollars will be used for the project.

The Hamburger Water Tower's first major fundraiser for the year on Sunday, August 11. It's a family fundraiser at the Taylor Road Park in Hamburg.

BurgerFest will be held along Main and Buffalo Streets and in the Village of Hamburg Municipal Parking Lot. The one-day festival runs from 11:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Admission is free while food tickets are 50 cents each.
