Local business suffers major damage from night of riots

Damage inside Black Rock Pharmacy after night of violence

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) - "This is very disturbing," said Don Arthur. "Our family pharmacy has been part of the Black Rock community for over 60 years and we've never had an incident to this extent."

Arthur is owner and head pharmacist at Black Rock Pharmacy on Tonawanda Street.

"It looks like a U-Haul plowed through the front of the store," he said. "I got a call around 1am. There is a tremendous amount of damage. It seems like this is a case of bad actors taking advantage of a difficult evening," he said.

Being a pharmacy and being in the business of dealing with prescriptions and controlled substances, Arthur has extensive cameras throughout inside and outside of his store. He's planning to analyze the videos today with Buffalo Police, who he called awesome on a very challenging night.

"I can count on one hand how many times I've had an incident here. It's a very supportive community," said Arthur. "We carry such a small quantity of controlled substances. We can get our product next day from wholesalers, so we keep very thin inventories. We make it difficult if there is a break-in. We randomize and hide the products. And with motion sensors, cameras and alarms, you're not going to have a lot of time."
