Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz has been invited to testify Wednesday morning before the House Budget Committee on the impact federal investments have on local government and economies.

Poloncarz is one of five witnesses invited to testify by House Budget Committee Chairman John Yarmuth (D-KY).

Poloncarz reminds us that Erie County is a large government. "It's the same size as Rhode Island. It has strong urban, suburban and rural communities. We're actually like a small state," he said. Erie County's population is greater than five states, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Alaska and Vermont. "When you look at the size of our county, and the impact that federal funds have, I think our county is a good example of why federal infrastructure dollars matter.  Erie County is a microcosm of the country," said Poloncarz.

The other panelists joining Poloncarz on Capitol Hill:

*Tracy Gordon, Ph.D - Senior Fellow, Urban-Brookings Tax Policy Center

*Jeanne Lambrew, Ph.D - Commissioner Department of Health and Human Services, State of Maine

*Larry Walher - Chief Fiscal Officer; and Director, Department of Finance and Administration, State of Arkansas

*Kim Murnieks - Director, Office of Budget and Management, State of Ohio

The hearing will take place at 10am Wednesday at the Cannon House Office Building in Washington, DC.
