Tonawanda, NY (WBEN) - The Town of Tonawanda says it is moving forward with an $8 Million recreation project that will bring a new ice rink, field house, and splash pads to the town.
The town calls it the first major development project since the Aquatic Center was built 29 years ago.
The plan will see the Brighton Pool on Brompton Road be demolished and replaced with a new ice arena. A splash pad will be installed next to the ice arena. The current Lincoln Arena would in turn be converted from an ice rink to an all-purpose field house.
Town officials presented the plan to residents Monday evening.
"Because of the cost of the project... the town board has looked at a lot of avenues so the taxpayer wouldn't be affected by this," said Tonawanda Councilman Dan Crangle.
Engineering firm Carmina Wood Morris is expected to begin work on the project by this September and it is anticipated to be completed by August 2020.
