S.C. man charged with murder after standoff with police

A South Carolina man has been charged with murder after an employee of a Discount Tire in Concord, N.C. was found dead following a standoff Saturday afternoon.

Jeremy Monty Spann, 39, of Lynchburg, S.C., was taken into custody and charged with one count of murder and one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Concord Police say officers responded to a call of a verbal argument at Discount Tire location at 575 Dickens Place Northeast. Spann barricaded himself inside the shop when police arrived and after a four-hour standoff one person was found dead inside.

The name of the victim has not been released.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department SWAT team assisted Concord authorities in their efforts.

Spann is being held at the Cabarrus County Jail with no bond.

Discount Tire released a statement regarding the incident saying, "Words cannot express the loss we are feeling. The entire Discount Tire family mourns this loss as we all work through this together.
