NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — A large part of the L train will be shut down between Friday and Monday so the MTA can install an escalator at Union Square.

The agency says there will be no service between Eighth Avenue and Broadway Junction from 10:45 p.m. on Friday night through Monday at 5 a.m.

The MTA will be providing free shuttle buses between the stations all weekend long. There will also be increased service on the M14 bus and the A, C, G, J and M trains.

Trains will return to their normal slowdown service on Monday, Sept. 16.

According to the MTA, the slowdown may not last as long as previously thought as work on the Canarsie Tunnel is running ahead of schedule.
