NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s daily coronavirus briefings have become a must-see on television, and not just for New Yorkers.

WCBS 880’s Marla Diamond reports people all over the country have been flocking to their TVs to hear the latest updates on the coronavirus crisis in New York from Gov. Cuomo.

His empathy and candor have made Cuomo and unlikely nationwide star of the coronavirus crisis.

The hashtag “Cuomo for President” had even started trending on Twitter on Tuesday.

Lee Miringoff, director of the Marist College Polls, says Cuomo is connecting with people in an uncertain time.

“Right now, providing both of the tactician that he always was, plus a little bit of the philosopher king and the warmth that his father use to project, and so he's sort of now the full package,” Miringoff said.

Even President Donald Trump has taken notice. His team, so far, has begun to schedule his appearances after Cuomo’s daily briefings.

According to a New York Post report, some people are even developing a bit of a crush on the governor, who recently split with his partner of 14 years, Sandra Lee.
