NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — New York Knicks legend Patrick Ewing announced Friday he has tested positive for COVID-19.
The Hall of Famer is under care and isolated a local hospital.
He announced the positive diagnosis on his personal Twitter page late Friday evening.
“I want to share that I have tested positive for COVID-19,” he wrote. “This virus is serious and should not be taken lightly.”
Ewing, who has been the head coach of the Georgetown men’s basketball team since 2017, choose to share his diagnosis publicly “to emphasize that this virus can affect anyone,” the school said.
Georgetown University says the coach is the only member of the men’s basketball tam to test positive for the virus.
The former Knicks great says he wants to make sure everyone is taking the proper precautions to ensure they do not get the virus.
“I want to encourage everyone to stay safe and take care of yourselves and your loved ones,” he wrote on Twitter.
