Governor Tim Walz has activated the National Guard to help local law enforcement should any civil unrest happen after the release of Derek Chauvin. The former officer, who was charged in the death of George Floyd, posted bond on his $1 million dollar bail on Wednesday morning.
Governor Walz says that he is mobilizing 100 soldiers and equipment along with 100 State Patrol officers and 75 Minnesota DNR officers. The Governor says this is to help keep peace tonight.
"Out of an abundance of caution for the safety of Minnesotans, we have asked the Minnesota National Guard to prepare to assist in keeping the peace."
