Police: Long Island man found inappropriately touching self in front of disabled boy

COMMACK, N.Y. (WCB S880) — A Long Island man was arrested Tuesday after police said he was caught touching himself inappropriately in front of a disabled boy.

Nassau County Police said a 49-year-old man went upstairs in his Westbury home around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday to check on his 6-year-old learning-disabled son and the boy's caretaker, identified as 60-year-old Thomas Tana of Commack.

When the father opened his son's bedroom door, police said he found Tana touching himself in front of the boy, who was undressed.

The father yelled at Tana, who left the home before police arrived.

Officers later arrested him at his home without incident.

The boy, who was not injured, was taken to a hospital for evaluation.

Tana is charged with endangering the welfare of a physically disabled person and endangering the welfare of a child.
