LAKE RONKONKOMA, N.Y. (WCBS 880) — Suffolk County police officers discovered a stolen ATM in the middle of a roadway Tuesday morning.

According to authorities, police officers responded to a call of a transformer in the road at the corner of Ronkonkoma Avenue and Hillcrest Street in Lake Ronkonkoma around 5:45 a.m.

Upon arrival, officers discovered it was not a transformer, but rather an ATM.

An investigation revealed the machine had been stolen from outside a Capital One Bank, located on Portion Road in Ronkonkoma.

Police believe the ATM was dragged by a vehicle with a chain and became dislodged as the thieves drove off.

Suffolk County Police Major Case Unit detectives are investigating and ask that anyone with information regarding the incident call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
