She's not a stepmom, she's a bonus mom!
Gisele Bündchen has a positive outlook on being a stepmom, even if she’s not a fan of the label.
The 39-year-old supermodel got candid about motherhood during a Q+A with fans on her Instagram Story on Thursday, PEOPLE reports.
One user – who noted that she was a stepmom herself and was looking for positive experiences – asked the model what it’s like being a stepmom to 12-year-old John “Jack” Edward Thomas, whom Tom Brady shares with ex-girlfriend Bridget Moynahan.
Bündchen was more than happy to share some insight into her blended family with the NFL star but noted that she does not like to use the term “stepmom” to describe herself.
“I don’t like the word ‘stepmom,'” she shared.
Instead, she offered up an alternative word: “I like the word ‘bonus mom’ because I feel like it’s a blessing in my life. I feel so lucky that I got to have an extra wonderful little angel in my life.”
In 2018, Bündchen told PEOPLE that she “couldn’t imagine my life without (Jack),” revealing that she calls him her “bonus child.”
The former Victoria’s Secret Angel also revealed that it’s important they create a “safe and loving” family environment for their kids.
“I think what’s really important as well is the energy that is around the children,” she said adding that they constantly give affection to the children so that they feel loved and appreciated.
She added that raising kids consists of teamwork, communication, and being on the same page.
“We never raise our voices. We never have arguments. We just talk things over if we have any issues,” she admitted.
The supermodel and the six-time Super Bowl champion wed in 2009. They celebrated their 11th wedding anniversary on Wednesday.
“I can’t believe it’s been 11 years since we devoured this delicious cake after we came home from our wedding. Happy anniversary love of my lifey!!! Thank you for making life so sweet!,” she wrote alongside a throwback photo on Instagram.
Brady shared his own tribute writing, “You have always been the one to hold us up and you love us the way no one else can. And we love you so much in return. Happy Anniversary Love of my Life.”
In addition to John, the couple are parents to 10-year-old son Benjamin Rein and 7-year-old daughter Vivian Lake.
They gave fans an exclusive look into their relationship on the E!’s show “In The Room” and credited the success of their relationship with “making sure we take time for one another.”
They also stressed the importance of good communication overall.
“And I think if you want it to get better and improve, you've gotta communicate. I want to support her and her dreams. She wants to support me and mine,” he said.
