Dave’s Lee Backyard Bash will become Dave Lee’s Virtual Bash, presented by Federated Insurance on Thursday night. Jason Zucker of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Gopher football player and five-time Cancer survivor Casey O’Brien are just a couple of the guests scheduled to join Dave on air and online as they raise money for the University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital.
Dave Lee’s Backyard Bash started as Dave Lee’s Gutter Bowl in 2005, before transitioning to a lawn bowling tournament in 2018. The events have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for several charities, including Masonic Children’s, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and Bolder Options youth mentoring.
COVID-19 has forced the event to go virtual for 2020, and the plan is to open up the event to the world and raise more money than ever. The proceeds help fund Dave Lee’s patio at the hospital, which is something patients and families have been requesting for years. When built, it’ll be a place that patients and their families can go to relax outside in the Minnesota weather, in a space that frees them from being stuck inside the hospital.
Dave Lee’s first-ever Gutter Bowl was the first to sponsor a room in the hospital, which has led to themed rooms and areas that have contributed to the friendly nature of the hospital, which helps people through their most trying times. Kyle Rudolph’s End Zone and The Zucker Family Suite and Broadcast Studio are two of the most elaborate areas that help patients and their families get their mind off their worries while at the hospital.
Throughout the day and in the days that follow Dave Lee’s Virtual Bash, News Talk 830 WCCO are directing those interested in donating HERE.
The broadcast will be live from 6:30pm to 8pm on News Talk 830 WCCO, RADIO.COM, the RADIO.COM, any smart speaker and on video via facebook.com/wccoradio and @wccoradio on Twitter.
