Loring Park in Minneapolis is going to look a lot different this holiday season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Minneapolis Downtown Council announced on Thursday that the 2020 Holidazzle will take place virtually this year citing continued concerns around public gatherings.
“This was a difficult decision, but the right decision. Our community’s health and well-being are most important as we head into the holiday season,” said Leah Wong, vice president of external relations, MPLS Downtown Council. “We are excited for the virtual experience Holidazzle will provide as you and yours celebrate with us wherever you are.”
Typically the outdoor event draws thousands to Loring Park from late November up until just before Christmas Day and features various holiday-themed vendors and performances. A schedule for this year's virtual Holidazzle is expected in early November.
The Minneapolis WinterSkate ice rink will also be closed this year because of pandemic concerns.
