Report: David Andrews released from hospital

According to the Boston Globe, Patriots center David Andrews was released from hospital on Monday night after being treated for blood clots in his lungs.

The story of Andrews dealing with blood clots in his lungs was first reported by The Athletic, indicating that the issue could put the center’s 2019 season in “jeopardy” or at the very least cause him to “miss a significant amount of time.”

A team captain for the last two seasons and mainstay on the New England offensive line since joining the team as an undrafted rookie out of Georgia in 2015, Andrews has missed the last two Patriots practices after seeing significant action with the starting line during the third preseason game last Thursday night.

With Andrews sidelined – whether it be for a short time or the entire season – it puts fourth-year backup Ted Karras in the spotlight. Karras is a former sixth-round pick who has only started five games in his first three NFL seasons.

Veteran James Ferentz could also see his chances of making the Patriots roster increase as a possible depth option at center.
