Jimmy Garoppolo and the 49ers fell to the Chiefs, 31-20, in Super Bowl LIV Sunday in Miami.
They had a 10-point lead midway through the fourth quarter, but Kansas City scored touchdowns on three straight possessions to clinch the game.
After not playing his best in the first three quarters, Patrick Mahomes really picked it up in the last 15 minutes. He went 10-for-17 passing with 141 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in the final quarter. Meanwhile, Garoppolo struggled down the stretch, going 3-for-8 with 36 yards and an interception.
Following the game, Chiefs defensive end Frank Clark called out Garoppolo.
“You’re paying the guy $140 million, $130 million, whatever he is getting paid, he gotta throw the ball," he said to FOX Sports. "Obviously, he didn’t do that. They threw for about 200 yards on check downs. That ain’t enough to win games against us. We’re Super Bowl champions.”
