Chris Godwin: Giving up No. 12 to Tom Brady could result in multiple Super Bowl rings

By WEEI 93.7

With Tom Brady joining the Buccaneers, wide receiver Chris Godwin traded in his No. 12 jersey for No. 14.

It doesn't appear like Godwin got anything in return, but appearing on The Checkdown, he said he could get multiple Super Bowl rings out of the deal.

“I have been (wearing No. 12) since high school and it means a lot to me," he said. "At first it bothered me a little bit, it was kind of getting at me because it is part of my identity, but when the GOAT comes calling you kind of concede to him. Like I said, hopefully I can get a ring or two or three out of that. I was more than happy to do it. I have a new persona for me, 1-4. We’re going to move forward and make something special with it.”

Brady has already begun to work with his new receivers, including Godwin, with some private workouts in the Tampa Bay area. Godwin cannot wait to get on the field with Brady and the rest of his teammates, as Tampa Bay currently has the fifth-best odds to win the Super Bowl.

“No doubt about it," Godwin said. "Any time you get to play with somebody that is the GOAT you’ve got to relish the opportunity. I have tried to learn as much as possible. We have a chance to really make something shake here. We’re going to go all-in and we’re going to really go for it."

Godwin is coming off a season where he had 86 catches for 1,333 yards and nine touchdowns in 14 games.
