The Patriots wide receivers room got a huge boost last month when Josh Gordon was conditionally reinstated by the NFL and he returned to the Patriots.
Gordon immediately jumped to No. 2 on the depth chart behind Julian Edelman, and the wide receiver is excited to have him back for another year.
“I think it means a lot. He’s a very talented player. He’s a great dude. He can bring the heat. This is a guy who is a stud," Edelman said Friday on The Greg Hill Show. "He’s doing well here right now, I feel. He’s working hard. He’s great in the locker room. He’s a good dude and we’re definitely excited to have him. I am excited to have him. He can help us, for sure.”
In 11 games with the Patriots last year, Gordon finished with 40 catches for 720 yards and three touchdowns.
Even though he's only been back with the team a few weeks, Edelman feels Gordon will be ready to go come Sunday night.
“I think our training staff and our strength staff has been doing as much as they can to get him to where he needs to be," he said. "That is a question you’d have to ask him. He was working out before. We got him in there, so my focus is more on what I have to do and I think he’s going to be fine.”
The Patriots currently have a wide receiver depth chart of Edelman, Gordon, Demaryius Thomas, Phillip Dorsett, Jakobi Meyers and Gunner Olszewski.
