Patriots sign safety Cody Davis, who could also help out on special teams

Bill Belichick loves safeties.

According to agent Jordan Woy, safety Cody Davis has signed with the Patriots. The 30-year-old has played for the Rams and Jaguars over his seven years in the league. Last year with Jacksonville he played in all 16 games and recorded 13 tackles.

Davis is most known for his play on special teams. His 382 special teams snaps last season ranked third in the NFL.

It appears Davis is a Nate Ebner replacement after he departed for New York and the Giants last week.

Davis joins Devin McCourty, Patrick Chung, Terrence Brooks and Adrian Phillips in the safeties room.
