After releasing kicker Kai Forbath on Monday, the Patriots still do not have a kicker -- four days before taking on the Chiefs Sunday at Gillette Stadium.
Maybe there's a reason for it, as they had their eyes on someone, but could not land him.
According to NFL Media's Ian Rapoport, the Patriots and Bills put in claims for kicker Chase McLaughlin after he was released by the 49ers, but ultimately he was awarded to the Colts since they had a higher spot in the claiming process.
In seven games combined with the Chargers and 49ers, the rookie has converted 13-of-17 (76.5 percent) of his field goal attempts, with a long of 50 yards, and has converted all 15 of his extra-point tries. He hit 7-of-8 field goals in three games in San Francisco, as well as all eight extra-point attempts.
The Colts obviously already have Adam Vinatieri on their roster, but he was listed as limited Wednesday with a knee injury.
If Nick Folk is recovered from his appendectomy, it seems likely he will return to New England.
