With Brock Holt now a member of the Brewers, not only did the Red Sox need to replace him on the field, but also he needed to be replaced as the Jimmy Fund captain.

On Friday, the Jimmy Fund announced the captain for 2020 is Red Sox first baseman Mitch Moreland.

The announcement came as no surprise, as Moreland hosted a virtual Bingo night for the Jimmy Fund last week.

"Being able to be part of that is going to be extra special," Moreland said to WEEI.com's Rob Bradford last week. "Obviously what Brock and Lakyn and Griff did is special to their communities and special to the Jimmy Fund. If there is any way we can help or carry that along and keep that tradition rolling we’re going to do our best at it. Obviously me and Brock are close so any kind of helps or hints I will need along the way I have is number pretty handy. I’m looking forward to being part of it."

Jimmy Fund captains attend fundraising events, visit patients and build support for cancer care and research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
