When Bill Belichick spoke for the first time since the team added Cam Newton last week, he seemed to indicate there would be a competition at quarterback just like at every other position.

In his eyes, all spots need to be earned, so Newton will battle Jarrett Stidham and Brian Hoyer for the starting QB job.

But, appearing on Dale & Keefe Wednesday, NFL Media's Willie McGinest doesn't think that is actually the case. He believes it's Newton's job.

“Well, they say it’s a competition, but if you are asking my opinion, I expect to see Cam Newton start at the quarterback position," McGinest said. "If he’s healthy he’s the guy.”

Newton signed a one-year deal with only $550,000 guaranteed and is worth up to $7.5 million if the Patriots win the Super Bowl.

The Patriots have hit the fields at Gillette Stadium to work on strength and conditioning this week.
