Brian Johnson is staying with the Red Sox.
Earlier in the week, the Red Sox placed the left-hander on waivers, but he cleared them on Wednesday and was outrighted to Triple-A Pawtucket. This means he will stay in the organization, but isn't on the 40-man roster.
The 29-year-old dealt with an elbow injury and a non-baseball related issue last season and was held to just 40 1/3 innings, posting a 6.02 ERA.
Johnson gives the Sox depth both in the starting rotation and bullpen.
