The biggest news of the week for the Patriots was Stephen Gostkowski being placed on injured reserve.
Andy Hart and Ryan Hannable were joined by NFL Network's Mike Giardi on the latest Off Day podcast where they reacted live to the news of Gostkowski being placed on IR. Giardi provided some insight on the hip injury, inferring it was something that had been lingering and the team was managing it.
“I believe it is a legitimate injury," he said. "I believe it is an injury he’s tried to manage and obviously they got to a point where missed kicks add up and they say, ‘This isn’t trending in the right direction.’”
Hannable noted that could have been part of the reason why Jake Bailey was drafted since he handled most of the kickoffs during training camp and the preseason.
“That’s actually a decent point by him," said Hart. "I didn’t know where he was going there.”
The Patriots reportedly have signed veteran Mike Nugent, but that wasn't the direction Hart wanted the team to go. He wanted a young kicker brought in.
“Swing for the fences and maybe you never need Stephen Gostkowski again," Hart said.
The three also discussed the Patriots' offensive struggles and also how the unit can get better in the coming weeks.
