The Patriots lost running back Rex Burkhead to a season-ending knee injury last week, but they will get another one back this week in Sony Michel.
Michel was activated off injured reserve prior to the Houston game and appears ready to return this week.
"He's had a couple of good weeks," Bill Belichick said via video conference Friday morning. "I think he'll be ready to go."
Speaking earlier in the week, Cam Newton seemed very excited to be getting Michel back.
"He's got fresh legs. And we were anticipating him and just to have so much firepower in that running back room, man," he said. "Obviously it's devastating to hear about Burky but for us, you can't replace a guy like that. And Sony bringing something that a lot of running backs don't have -- that may be experience, that may be beat playability, that may be just his understanding this offense, and we're going need all of that here moving forward."
Besides Michel, the Patriots will also have Damien Harris and James White. Harris still figures to be the No. 1 back, while White will still play the majority of the passing downs.
It will be interesting to see just how much playing time Michel gets after not playing since Week 3.
