Uncertainty seems to be the new normal in Foxboro these days following years of dominance.
Replying to a tweet from a Patriots fan club, Julian Edelman posted this Tuesday night, which can be read a number of different ways.
Is this a hint at things to come? A retirement note? A farewell? Edelman, who missed the final 10 games of the season following knee surgery, is one of the biggest question marks for the Patriots heading in the 2021 offseason. Will he return? What does he have left in the tank? Does he want to play elsewhere? Does he miss Tom as much as many of us do?
The Patriots are already thin at receiver, a position the team will likely address this offseason via free agency, the draft or both. While not the elusive slot machine he once was, Edelman showed in 2020 he can still get open and change games, as evidenced by his career best 179 yard performance Week 2 vs Seattle. Most fans, even if he’s not vintage MiniTron, would likely want to see one last go round for JE11 in Foxboro. But that seems, like many things, up in the air for the Pats right now.
Edelman has one year left on his two year extension $18 million extension that guarantees him $2.8 million in 2021.
