Matt LaFleur has a lot of explaining to do.

With the Green Bay Packers trailing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 31-23, Aaron Rodgers had the offense marching down field late in the fourth quarter with a chance to tie the game.

After failing to convert on a third-and-goal from the 8-yard line many believed that the Packers would run one more play to try and put themselves in a position to go for the two-point conversion.

Instead, LaFleur brought the special teams unit out and kicked the field goal to make it a 31-36 game with 2:09 remaining.

The decision was mind-boggling to many watching the game.

LaFleur was essentially opting to put faith in his defense to stop Tom Brady and get the ball back instead of running one more play with his MVP quarterback?

Green Bay had all its timeouts left, which could be argued either way, but the field goal made the score 31-26 and the Packers would still need to go down field and score the touchdown anyway.

Everyone on social media lit up in disbelief over the decision.

The decision backfired on LaFleur as the Bucs were able to run out the clock after converting a third down courtesy of a defensive pass interference to send Tom Brady to his 10th Super Bowl.

LaFleur was furious at the call – which was a late flag – but replays showed there was illegal contact.

LaFleur can be angry all he wants at the call, but his explanation for kicking the field goal is what will be second-guessed for quite some time.
