The Patriots returned to the practice field for the first time since last Saturday and also got quarterback Cam Newton and cornerback Stephon Gilmore back after they were both on the COVID list.
In addition, practice squad defensive tackle Bill Murray was back on the field after he too was on the COVID list. As of now, just defensive tackle Byron Cowart remains on the list.
Given Newton and Gilmore are two of the Patriots' best players, there was obviously some excitement to get them back on the field.
Here's what a few players who spoke afterwards had to say.
N'Keal Harry: "It was great to have all those guys back. They are a big part of this team and they help a lot of us out there so it was great to have them back as well. ... [Newton is] a very vocal guy, he likes to have fun out there. Kind of brings back that mood, that fun kind of mood out there so it’s been good."
Jonathan Jones: “It felt good. It felt good to have everybody back there as a team. Just to get out there today and practice. We missed having those guys out there. They’re a big part of what we do. So just having them out there today definitely felt different. And definitely got to check in with Steph a good bit while he was in quarantine. Tried to keep him company through text messages.”
John Simon: “[Gilmore is] a huge part of our defense and any time we can have him it definitely helps us in the long run. Happy that he’s back, for sure.”
