It’s been two days since Josh McDaniels interviewed with the Eagles for their vacant head coaching job.
So, where do things stand?
According to Howard Eskin on WIP radio in Philadelphia, it’s going to come down to McDaniels and current running backs/assistant head coach and former player Duce Staley.
Eskin also said some players have texted owner Jeffrey Lurie in support of Staley.
Additionally, Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio reports GM Howie Roseman is fine with bringing in McDaniels, but Lurie needs to be talked into it.
One additional layer is former Patriots quarterbacks coach Jedd Fisch was college roommates with Roseman, so it wouldn’t be surprising if he advocated to McDaniels on Roseman’s behalf and vise-versa to Roseman on McDaniels’ behalf.
After McDaniels reportedly interviewed for close to 12 hours Sunday in Florida with Lurie and other members of the front office, Philly has interviewed Colts defensive coordinator Nick Sirianni and Cowboys offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, while showing interest in Dallas special teams coach John Fassel.
With only two openings left around the league (Philly and Houston), the Eagles seem to be taking their time to make sure they hire the right person.
