It's good to have goals. Celebrating a world championship would be one of them for any team.
That's the message we were reminded of thanks to J.D. Martinez's arrival at Red Sox camp in Fort Myers, Fla.
The designated hitter's t-shirt offered New Englanders a powerful reminder ...
Speaking Sunday morning -- the final day before the entire roster is slated to report for spring training -- Red Sox Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom painted an optimistic picture when talking about Martinez's ability to bounce back from a down 2020 campaign.
"It’s absolutely critical for us," Bloom said of Martinez's bounce-back. "We’ve seen, all of baseball has seen over the last few years, how important he is to our lineup, and just how much he brings a lineup together when he’s doing what he can do. He’s such a complete hitter when he’s right. I actually chatted with him today, saw him face-to-face for the first time in a while. We talked about the club. He looks great. I’m just excited for him to be able to put last year in the rearview mirror. We know how good a hitter he is and what a student of hitting he is, just how much he changes a lineup when he is that force."
