It's going to be an interesting introduction into professional baseball for Nick Yorke.
The Red Sox' first-round pick -- and 17th overall selection in this year's MLB Draft -- has been placed in the organization's 60-player pool, meaning he will be working out for the final two weeks of the season at McCoy Stadium in Pawtucket.
Just 18 years old Yorke will be the youngest participant at the Red Sox' alternate site, two years the junior of another first-round pick who is participating Triston Casas.
Yorke just graduated from Archbishop Mitty High (San Jose) in June, having hit a combined .503 over his final three high school seasons. The middle infielder played in just five games before his senior season was suspended, but managed eight hits in 15 at-bats with two homers before the shutdown.
The Red Sox' Player Pool stands at 59 players, with the big league club's final regular season game taking place Sept. 27.
