Islanders Lose G Robin Lehner, Sign G Semyon Varlamov

The Islanders have had a lively start to free agency.

After losing goalie Robin Lehner to the Chicago Blackhawks on a one-year, $5 million deal, New York announced their agreement with goalie Semyon Varlamov on a four-year, $20 million contract Monday night.

Varlamov played the last eight years in Colorado, earning a record of 183-156-38. This past season, the 11-year veteran finished 20-19-9 with a goals-against average of 2.87 and a .909 save percentage in 49 games.

For his career, the 31-year-old has gone 213-169-50 with a 2.68 GAA and a .916 SV% in 448 career  games between the Avalanche and Capitals.

Lehner played well in his one season with the Islanders, appearing in 46 of the team's 82 games while registering a 2.13 GAA and a .930 SV%.

The 27-year-old started all eight of New York's playoff games over Thomas Greiss and finished with a 2.00 GAA and .936 SV%.
