Mike Francesa reacting to anything that is happening live usually is radio gold. This time around didn't disappoint.
The Mets came back from a 1-0 deficit in the top of the 9th inning Thursday thanks to a Todd Frazier two-run homer and an insurance run. They entered the bottom of the 9th inning with a 3-1 lead. Then the Mets happened. Edwin Diaz gave up a two-run homer to tie the game to Maikel Franco. Then Jean Segura hit a walk-off three-run home run to win the game and finish off a four-game sweep of the Mets.
"Oh my god. Oh my god. Can't happen! There is no coming back from this if they lose this game. This guy may never be what he was supposed to be in New York now. This game can not happen. This kid has killed the Mets. He kills them every night. I told you this can't happen. Are you kidding me? What is this the 82nd time Franco hit a home run in a big spot against the Mets? Leave him in there to lose it now."
That was Francesa's reaction to the home run to tie the game. Now it's on to his reaction to the walk-off blast.
"Segura hits a shot. Home run. UNBELIEVABLE! So this guy comes in and gives up five runs. That sums it up. Fire all of 'em. Don't even bring him back to New York. Let the bus go the other way. Please. Tomorrow night let the '69 Mets take the field. They do a better job against the Braves. This is unbelievable. Frazier hits one of the biggest home runs you could hit in your life. Kept the Mets alive. 2-1 Mets. They add an insurance run. 3-1 Mets. Go to the bottom of the 9th. They traded to get this kid. The great reliever. They bring Diaz in here. All he's got to do is get a rocking chair save against the bottom of the lineup. Walks the first batter, gives up a home run to the eight hitter. And then gives up a three-run jack to Segura on his 38th pitch or whatever the heck it was. He's done. He's shot. Bullpen is shot. Team's shot. Manager's shot. The pitching strategist, who the hell knwos what he does in the first place.
"Let the Mets take the bus. Instead of coming north on the turnpike, send it south. Let the '69 Mets suit up tomorrow night. This is a disgrace. I can't even believe it! You can't lose this game! They stink so bad, you can't even make it up. 37-45. You got to be kidding me. Get rid of all of them. They're a bunch of jokers. Alonso, I apologize. McNeil, I apologize. DeGrom, maybe I apologize. The rest of you ... you stink. Back after this."
