Dr. Anthony Fauci threw out the ceremonial first pitch before the Yankees-Nationals MLB season opener in Washington, D.C., Thursday night, and let’s just say it wasn’t the best pitch of the night.
Make whatever joke you want – “he flattened the curve,” or “don’t quit your day job,” or, as ESPN’s Matt Vasgersian said on the broadcast, “juuuuuuust a bit outside” – but the video says it all: Fauci definitely made a wise career move going into medicine and not baseball.
Fauci had told Nats star Ryan Zimmerman, who has opted out of the 2020 season, that he was nervous about the endeavor, to which Zimmerman responded in a Tweet: “Don’t worry about it. If you bounce it, there’s nobody there to boo you. So, you’ll be good to go.”
One other thing of note: Fauci, who is a huge Nationals fan, threw out the pitch wearing a No. 19 jersey – normally the number of pitcher Anibal Sanchez – but also did so wearing a Nats-tinted face mask.
