Jets' Darnold Cleared, Will Start Sunday Vs. Cowboys

By WFAN Sports Radio 101.9 FM/66AM New York

Sam Darnold has been cleared for contact and will start Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys, the team announced Tuesday.

The Jets' second-year quarterback has missed the past three games after coming down with mononucleosis. The Jets desperately need the 2018 third overall pick. They are off to a 0-4 start and have the NFL's last-ranked offense, averaging just 179.5 yards per game.

Darnold returned to practice last week and was optimistic about playing this past Sunday against the Eagles, but doctors did not clear him for contact drills in time.

In Darnold's place, Trevor Siemian started the Jets' Week 2 against the Cleveland Browns but suffered a season-ending ankle injury. Luke Falk started the past two games, going 27-of-48 for 218 yards with no touchdowns, three interceptions and a 41.8 passer rating.

In Darnold's only game so far this season — a 17-16 Week 1 loss to the Bills — he completed 28 of 41 passes for 175 yards with one touchdown.
