Yankees' Sanchez Placed On Injured List With Groin Strain

The Yankees will be without their star catcher for a while.

The Bronx Bombers placed Gary Sanchez on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with a left groin strain. He suffered the injury while running out a grounder in Tuesday night's 14-12 win over the Minnesota Twins. He was scheduled to undergo an MRI on Wednesday.

The injury comes during a lengthy slump by Sanchez, who is hitting .118 with one home run and six RBIs in his last 21 games. For the season, Sanchez, who started in the All-Star Game earlier this month, is batting .229 with 24 homers and 58 RBIs.

It's Sanchez's second trip to the IL this season. He was sidelined two weeks in April with a left calf strain.

The Yankees also optioned right-handed reliever Jonathan Holder to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Thursday and called up catcher Kyle Higashioka and left-hander Nestor Cortes.
