Mets general manager Brodie Van Wagenen has extended an invitation to Boomer Esiason and Gregg Giannotti. Will they accept it?
On Monday's "Boomer and Gio" show, the guys were discussing Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield shotgunning a beer at an Indians game over the weekend. That led Esiason, a Mets fan, to wonder aloud whether he would elicit a similar reaction if he chugged a beer at Citi Field.
Boomer said on Tuesday's show he'll be out of town Friday but expressed reluctance in accepting the offer anyway.
"I don't want to make this about us. It's not about us. It's about the team," Esiason said of the Mets, who have won 11 of their last 12 are now just 2 1/2 games out of the wild card.
"But this is about the team," Giannotti responded. "It's about firing up the team and firing up the fans.
"Listen, everbody's behind you on this, and I'll be right there next to you," Gio continued. "I'm into it. Whatever you need. Obviously Friday doesn't work, but we will figure it out, we'll get a day, and we've got to do it. You have to do it!"
WFAN's Chris Carlin is also urging Boomer to accept the offer.
"He has to do it, and he absolutely has to shotgun a beer," Carlin said on Monday's "Carlin, Maggie and Bart" show. "People would love that. Let's go!"
Will Boomer eventually cave?
