A little Monday morning tongue-twister Moment of the Day, courtesy of an early-morning reference to former NFL linebacker and coach Harland Svare and a call from old-timer Joe.
“He coached for the Chahjaz a lawng time ago!” the caller spilled in his accent. “I was in the process of calling you when you mentioned that one of the old-time callers might know him.”
“You think Joe Benigno knows everything about Harlan Svare? Like, that’s right in Joe’s wheelhouse, isn’t it?” Gio asked, before rolling into his Joe B impression: “Of course, he was a terrible coach! This guy Gase, man, he’s worse than freaking Svare! I never thought I’d see worse than Svare!”
Svare, who played for the Giants from 1955-60 and served two stints as the defensive coordinator in the 1960s, was 14-31-3 in four seasons with the Rams and 7-17-2 in three seasons with the Chargers, so, technically, Adam Gase does have a better record…but since we can’t speak ill of the dead, let’s go with the notion that Gase is indeed worse!
