Another day, another impression for Gio: this time, Gerrit Cole.
While listening to C-Lo playing Cole’s comments on Kyle Higashioka’s strong performance Wednesday night during an update, Gio decided to step into the $324 million man’s shoes with what he’s really thinking about his catchers.
“He’s not like, uh, super lazy, like the other guy who catches, and he doesn’t strike out, he’s focused out there and not looking at the butterflies out there,” Gio said as Cole. “This guy is like checked out in there, I have to snap my fingers in his face sometimes, and say like, ‘hello, are you here?’ You can totally opt out, you know.”
As Boomer noted, the way Cole and Higgy work together – 20 innings, 0.45 ERA in the last three starts – plus Higgy’s firepower is probably going to cause controversy, but hey, what would a Yankees season be if it just went by swimmingly?
