It’s time, once again, for everybody, to come aboard the PIIIIIIIIIIIIIICKS Train!
Okay, so apologies to former WWE Superstar The Godfather for co-opting his line, but it is indeed once again that time of year – NFL Picks from Joe & Evan, brought to you for Week 1 by OddsTrader.com!
This year, we’re making sure you’re in the “New York Know” and go with Joe & Evan’s picks by placing them here right on WFAN.com! After Evan eked out a half-game win last year (24-27 to Joe’s 23-27-1), will Evan add another notch in the Benigno Bracket of Pain, or will Joe from Saddle River celebrate his silver anniversary on the FAN with a W?
NFL Week 1, as Joe noted, is “the ultimate crapshoot,” with seven road favorites. Anything can happen, and we could have a three-game swing right out of the gate, as Joe and Evan have picked two different sets of three games, with a lot of underdog action.
Let’s see what they have in mind:
Carolina (+3) vs. Las Vegas: “I don’t know how good Carolina is going to be with a new coach and a new quarterback, but this is more of a pick against the Raiders. What have the Raiders done lately that they should be road favorites against anyone? That’s what jumps out at me, so I’m taking a flyer here.”
NY Jets (+6.5) at Buffalo: “If I’m ever gonna pick the Jets, this is it, because I don’t know what anything is. I think the Jets will lose their first four games and go 6-10, and nothing makes me feel good. But again, what is Buffalo? Everybody loves Buffalo, they are a good team, but are they as good as everyone makes them out to be as the trendy pick to win the AFC East? I just think it’ll be a close game. Gimme the Jets, and don’t ask me why!”
Pittsburgh (-6) at NY Giants: “Sorry Giant fans, I love Pittsburgh here. You’re laying six, and I’d like it to be maybe a little less, but Big Ben is back, and Pittsburgh going 8-8 is like most teams going 2-14.
This is a tough spot for the Giants coming in with a new coach…a lot of question marks.”
Cleveland (+7.5) at Baltimore: “It is almost impossible for Lamar Jackson to back up what he did last year. I think the Ravens are going to be very good, but I don’t think they’re just going to dominate, and I think the Browns are going to bounce back and be better, and live up to the hype they had a year ago. Not confident they’ll win this game outright, but 7.5 is a lot of points.”
LA Rams (+2.5) vs. Dallas: “First of all, I think the Rams are going to bounce back this year – the biggest challenge they face is that they’re in a loaded division. I think they’ll be significantly better, but I don’t know about Dallas. A team I think is better than Dallas is at home and getting points; I don’t know if any bet is safe, but I’m very comfortable with this one.”
New England (-6.5) vs. Miami: “I can’t stand either one of these teams, and go back and forth on who I hate more! But I think the Patriots are going to crush them. Bill Belichick, the evil genius he is, will have his team looking for revenge from last year, and I’m now fully convinced Cam Newton is going to win the MVP. I’ll lay 6.5…heck, I’ll lay 10 in this one.”
