(WFAN) -- It's not every day that a team five games under .500 and six games out of the second NL Wild Card spot goes out and gets an ace. Well, the Mets just did that.
The Mets have acquired pitcher Marcus Stroman from the Blue Jays Sunday, the team announced. The Mets will send top pitching prospects Anthony Kay and Simeon Woods Richardson to the Blue Jays.
Stroman has one year left under team control in 2020 before becoming a free agent. The Long Island native is 6-11 this season, but has a 2.96 ERA in 124 2/3 innings. In six seasons with the Blue Jays, Stroman has a career ERA of 3.76.
Kay was the Mets No. 4 prospect and was expected to get to the big leagues either in September or sometime in 2020. Woods Richardson was the No. 6 prospect.
With the trade deadline looming on Wednesday, it's hard to believe that the Mets are done dealing just yet.
