The New York Rangers made it official Wednesday, bidding adieu to legendary goaltender Henrik Lundqvist by buying out the final year of his contract.
Tributes poured in immediately once the news was final, and Lundqvist himself took to Twitter to thank the fans and his former organization – and rather than report it, we’ll let you see Hank’s goodbye in his own words and pictures.
“Representing this organization has been the biggest source of pride and joy in my life. I’m so grateful for the opportunity, for the friendships and for all the great memories created wearing the red, white and blue. I will always cherish my time as a Ranger. From the bottom of my heart, thank you!”
"Be kind, respectful and supportive of others. Like one of my good friends always says, “good things happen to good people.” In some ways, I feel like I grew up here and I will forever appreciate you, New York City! I’ll see you around!"
