Luke Voit really almost did hit this one to Detroit.

The Yankees first baseman continued his torrid 2020 season with a mammoth three-run home run in the second inning of Tuesday’s game against the Blue Jays to put the Bombers up 6-1.

The 426-foot shot rocketed 107.2 miles per hour off the bat and landed deep into the left-center field bleachers – rare territory for most hitters.

If that was not enough, Voit added on another in the sixth inning as the Yankees took a monumental 17-3 lead over the Blue Jays -- his 18th of the season as he takes a commanding lead in sole possession of the 2020 home run race.

Voit leads Twins DH Nelson Cruz and Angels outfielder Mike Trout at 16 home runs while three others have 15.

It has been a breakout season for Voit – who has held the Yankees lineup together while so many sluggers landed on the injured list in this pandemic-shortened season.

Voit entered Tuesday’s game hitting a slash line of .270/.335/.597/.933 and 37 RBI.

While Trout may very well get MVP honors again, Voit will certainly have a case to make by season’s end if he continues his hitting over the final two weeks.
