Doug Rice Discusses the Latest Headline News in NASCAR as the Playoffs Head to Richmond

The President and Anchor for PRN joined Kyle Bailey today on the Clubhouse as he recapped the Southern 500 at Darlington, and how important this weekend's race at Richmond is for the bubble drivers below the playoff cut line.

Kyle first started the conversation by asking Doug about last Sunday's Southern 500 which saw Kevin Harvick win another crown jewel race after Martin Truex Jr. and Chase Elliott made contact with one another in the closing laps battling for the lead and Doug told Kyle that when Kevin wins a race like that where you don't have the best car but still win is how the best win the championship. Doug also pointed out that with the streak that Harvick is on right now he wouldn't be shocked if his win total would reach 11 by the end of the year.

Kyle then shifted his focus to this weekend's action at Richmond as Kyle wanted to know who are some of the drivers that could benefit from a win or a good run and Doug mentioned Ryan Blaney who had a rough weekend in Darlington after his crew chief got suspended with an improperly mounted ballast was found in prerace inspection has put him behind the 8 ball. Doug says that at this point Ryan is basically going to have to get a win in the next 2 races if he hopes to win the title.

Another driver that Doug talked about was Austin Dillon as he finished in 2nd last week as Doug said that he could use another good run to continue his momentum and stay above the cutline. Doug also said that over this summer we are starting to see the potential possibly be fulfilled by the Welcome, NC driver that we saw when he won both the Truck Series and Xfinity Series Championships.

Kyle then wanted Doug to weigh in on some of the biggest news off the track as Bubba Wallace will be leaving Richard Petty Motorsports in 2021 and Kyle asked Doug if he was surprised as Doug stated:

"A little bit, because it seemed like as the year went on and with all the stuff that had happened with Bubba that there has been a genuine bond between him and Richard Petty, along with everyone else in that organization. What this tells me is that there is a bigger money deal that somebody has put on the table. Whether that be Hendrick Motorsports or Chip Ganassi Racing. He is in a sweet spot in time with him gaining a lot of notoriety and there are probably several companies willing to invest in him, and those opportunities don't come around often."
