Star NFL Cornerback Shrugs Off Alleged Disappointing Madden Rating, Just Wants to Win Super Bowl

White: "It's all good bro, been overlooked my whole life"

Tre’Davious White led the NFL in interceptions last season with six. He surrendered zero touchdowns. He appeared on three different first-team All-Pro rosters (Associated Press, Pro Football Writers, Sporting News). His 18 approximate value, Pro Football Reference’s all-encompassing statistic which attempts to objectively evaluate each player in the league, was tied for fourth-best in the entire NFL, trailing only Lamar Jackson, Stephon Gilmore and Minkah Fitzpatrick.

And yet, according to leaked Madden Grades that his teammate Jerry Hughes brought to light, White received a Madden rating of 89 overall. It’s up from his 85 overall rating last year, but it still seems too low on the surface. The Bills defense, which surrendered the second-fewest points and third-fewest yards in the NFL in 2019, apparently only received a Madden rating of 83 (via Ryan Talbot of

In all fairness, an EA employee, Andre Weingarten, responded to Talbot and said that the leaked ratings aren’t accurate. He’s responded to other reported leaked ratings with the same response.

What’s more important than the Madden ratings, though, is how the All-Pro cornerback responded to Hughes’ disgruntled tweet about Talbot’s article.

Madden ratings? Who cares?! Apparently, not White. He’s just excited to get back on the football field and continue dominating the opposition. Cam Newton’s arrival in New England tilted the odds to win the AFC East back in the Patriots’ favor, according to Odds Shark, which lists the Pats’ odds at +110 and the Bills at +145, close behind.

The Bills, then, are once again an underdog. A quick start, featuring the same stout defense and much-needed chemistry between Josh Allen and new addition Stefon Diggs, could easily propel them back into the lead, though. And when the Bills are favorites, Sean McDermott leads them to a ton of success. Sal Capaccio of WGR in Buffalo did some digging at saw that the Bills were 6-1 in 2017, 2-1 in 2018, and 6-1 in 2019 when they were favorites.

We’ll find out the definitive Madden ratings when they’re released, which Weingarten “thinks” will be at the end of this week. But whether they’re higher, lower or were correct all along, it’s not going to change the mentality of star cornerback Tre’Davious White.
